The "dirty" air passes through the UV sanitation chamber where it is treated with UVC light using the eight fluorescent lamps. The disinfection process kills up to 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, mold, spores, and other harmful microbes. Clean sanitized air exits the chamber through a louvered exhaust panel and is released back into the environment. The louvers also protect people from UV exposure in the surrounding area. This low-maintenance air disinfection process is continuous and quiet. MERV Filter: HVAC air filters are rated according to the minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV). The MERV rating measures how effectively the filter prevents dust and other contaminants from getting through and into the circulating air. Larson Electronics utilizes filters that have a rating of MERV 16 in our UV air sanitation purifiers. This level of air filter can stop particulates that range from 0.3 to 1.0 microns in size. Note on Environment: Sunlight and visible light fixtures do not impact the effectiveness of the disinfecting on this UVC sanitation product. Metal halide, high pressure sodium, fluorescent, and LED light fixtures can be left on. The UV radiation emitted from this product is not disrupted by any type of lighting in the environment. Put simply, NO it DOES NOT need to be dark in the area you plan to disinfect. The UV radiation is harmful to the eyes and skin, and that is why you should not be in the area while it is in operation.
