Transom shields are the plates inside and outside of the transom that holds the drives in place and connects it to the motor. All the bolts and nuts hold the transom shield from the inner transom plate and should be installed properly. Unsealed transom shield mounting holes cause leaking steering pin seals. Through transom anode bolts (because these anodes are changed regular basis, it's easy to spin the bolts when removing and fitting the anode - this fractures the sealant between the bolt's washer and the transom). This screw should be removed and observed of water entry to the transom. Any fittings coming into the transom should be sealed, not only the outward transom; the inner transom and stringers should also check, as bilge water can leak into any non-sealed fixtures. This screw is corrosion-free, reliable, and safe to use.
