The Menorca's flag was adopted on 14 November 1983. The coat of arms of the Universitat General is placed in the center of nine horizontal bars of yellow and red that alternate in color. The regional council of Menorca established a commission on 8 August 1983 to research symbols related to the island for usage on a flag. The commission came to the conclusion that Menorca never had an official flag and that its identity relied mainly on symbols from the Kingdom of Aragon.
