It is intended to pump water supply from the boat's outside into the engine's raw water cooling piping. An O-ring is a little circular piece of rubber inserted into the groove of a threaded connector. When the two threads come together and become squeezed, the O-ring acts as a water pump seal, protecting the links against leakage.
