CYL HEAD TEMP WITH SENDER (F25011) measures the temperature of an engine. The head temperature will rise rapidly as the engine runs at high speeds. Often used on air-cooled engines, this indicator shows how much work the engine does in a short period. As the engine warms up, the resistance in the sending unit gradually decreases until the system reaches maximum temperature. The sending unit, a temperature-sensitive material that is part of variable resistance, is a water-sealed unit that sits in the coolant stream.

The CYL HEAD TEMP WITH SENDER (F25011) is the K-type thermocouple usually mounted under the spark plug in CHT senders. After heating, a K-type thermocouple consists of two dissimilar metals that produce a small voltage signal. The hot junction is the metal closest to the spark plug, and the cold junction is the metal closest to the head. The spark plug's heat transferred to the thermocouple via the ring beneath the plug. Typically, the gauge and cold junction are calibrated at room temperature, which is 72° F (22° C).
