Cotter pins are utilized in conjunction with clevis pins to connect pieces of equipment or two machine parts. Standard cotter pins, also known as split keys or cotter keys, are inserted through the cross-holes in clevis pins. Hairpin cotter keys, also called hitch pins, bridge pins, or R-clips, are composed of a single length of hardened metal wire ("R" shape). Excellent for quick assembly or disassembly applications and is considered a reusable metal fastener.
